We were out showings homes to some buyers in Hyde Park.
Hyde Park is one of the 77 communities in Chicago. It is located about 7 miles from downtown Chicago. It is just off the shores of Lake Michigan.
You will see some of the most amazing homes in Hyde Park. There are some newer homes that have been built. However, the gems of Hyde Park are these amazing architectural pieces of history that line some of the streets in Hyde Park.
It is always amazing to view some of these mansions that were built in the nineteenth and twentieth century. The craftsmanship and details of these homes are unique and so hard to find in today’s homes.
Hyde Park is famous for many reasons.
The University of Chicago, which was founded in 1890, is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Just to the west of the University of Chicago, you will find the University of Chicago Medical Center, also known as UChicago Medicine. It is actually owned by the University of Chicago.
The Midway Plaisance, also called the Midway is a public park. It is one mile long by 220 yards wide and extends along 59th and 60th streets. It gained its recognition from the events that were held there at the Chicago's World's Fair Columbian Exposition in 1893. Also at the World's Fair was a very famous building that was called the Palace of Fine Arts. That is the only building that is still standing today. You know it as The Museum of Science and Industry.
Located on the campus of the University of Chicago is the Rockefeller Chapel. A gothic style chapel that was built almost 100 years ago, and can seat 1700 people.
There are National Historic Landmark homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. There is Promontory Point also called the Point, which is a man made peninsula located at 55th Street and projects into Lake Michigan.
You have restaurants and shopping districts located along 53rd, 55th, and 57th Streets. There are CTA buses and the Metra Electric Line which service the neighborhood and go into downtown Chicago.
Hyde Park is a great community with a historic past.
