Over the weekend we saw the film crew transform a neighborhood tavern into Molly's Pub.
Molly's is really called Lottie's pub located in the Bucktown neighborhood. Molly's Pub is the go to place for the crew from the Chicago Fire TV show.
It is often used in the TV shows because the owner is supposed to be a firefighter, and is frequented by the members of the firehouse as well as police officers, and paramedics.
The first two seasons of Chicago Fire all bar scenes were filmed at the corner neighborhood tavern. However, filming there became too expensive, so an actual bar was built at Cinespace Studios.
That is where shows like Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med are filmed.
Yes, there actually is a movie studio in Chicago.
It is located near 15th and Rockwell in the North Lawndale neighborhood.
Cinespace Chicago Film Studios occupies 1.45 million sq. ft. of what use to be the old Ryerson Steel Company. Cinespace Chicago specializes in the development, management and operation of studio facilities.
So the next time you watch Chicago Fire or Chicago P.D. look and listen when they mention going to Molly's Pub. You will know the real story about it.
