For 60 years now, members of the Plumbers Union, Local 130, have dropped this green dye into the Chicago river( actually it's an orange dye, but when mixed in with the river water it turns it a bright green color) flowing through downtown Chicago. It leaves the river emerald green for about a week.
We happened to be downtown last weekend. It was alot of fun. There was the Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade and the Chicago River Dyeing Ceremony.
